Below are our favorite spots if case you want to try some of Knoxville's best restaurants.
Our favorite pizza place located in downtown Knoxville - a 5 minute walk from the Old City. Reservations should be made on the Resy app - at least 1-2 weeks ahead of time.
Best. Burger. Ever.
There is a west Knoxville location that has wood-fired pizza; a Bearden location with great nachos and patio area; and a downtown food truck at Xul Brewery that serves smash burgers. No reservations needed but definitely a wait in peak times.
Where it started... 🥲
Kevin's law office was located next door to Aubrey's when Jenna was a bartender. He was a semi-regular for trivia night with friends and of course became a consistent regular once he met Jenna. They have a wide selection of consistently amazing food. They're locally owned with multiple locations in the Knoxville area, but the Papermill spot will always hold a special place in our hearts.
If you like tacos and a tequila selection with over 100 choices, you'll love this downtown Tex-Mex restaurant off Gay St. Their tacos are incredible with a unique, trendy atmosphere. (If they're slammed, they have 2 sister restaurants across the street in Market Square - Stock & Barrel for the bourbon/burger enthusiasts and The Brass Pearl for oyster lovers)
Our favorite Italian restaurant in Knoxville - located in Market Square downtown. Possibly the best carbonara we've ever had. Check out the OpenTable app for a reservation.
Shareable boards galore! A few miles away from the wedding venue is a local spot that serves a variety of charcuterie-style boards (brunch boards, even a fry board!) and other great food options.
One of our first outings with our amazing new neighbors, this place has an amazing tapas spread full of Pan-Latin / Asian Fusion options. The building was an old bank, and they transformed the downstairs area into an uber intimate bar named "The Vault."
You can't find a better outdoor Queso-friendly patio in Knoxville. This was the first place we took Jenna's niece for her first weekday Knoxville outing. Our favorite item is the large pretzel with mustard and beer cheese. Also, if you're ordering some hot chicken, make sure to order a spice level down from your usual (or maybe two levels!).
Here are a few experiences Knoxville has to offer while you're in town and waiting to celebrate on the 18th!
This has become a typical date night for us! Jenna's taken Kevin here for a group birthday party with friends and regularly dominates him. There are two Knoxville locations - one next to Abridged World Headquarters and another within a short walk from A Dopo Pizza downtown.
Here’s a link to a popular ticket platform where you can find events happening around the time of your visit. Just make sure to avoid booking tickets close to the wedding!
A beautiful wildlife sanctuary located along the Tennessee River that has over 300 acres of natural habitat, walking trails, climbing walls, and beautiful scenery.
What a better way to repurpose the abandoned Gay St. underground than to place a put a super unique bowling alley underneath some of downtown Knoxville's oldest buildings. They have around 11 lanes downstairs with a cozy upstairs seating area, covered patio, and exceptional bar food. If you want to grab a lane, better swing by around 3-4pm to put your name down. Next door is Chivo Taqueria (see above).
When we lived downtown, we'd normally spend our Saturday morning before brunch walking through the farmer's market checking out the local fare and one of the main things we missed after heading to the suburbs. If you're around downtown on a Wednesday or Saturday, we'd highly recommend what hardworking East Tennesseans have to offer.
